Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA)

The Museum of Ontario Archaeology (or MOA) is a Museum in London, Ontario that is dedicated to the study and public-interpretation of 12,000 years of human history in Ontario.

MOA is also the caretakers of the 500-year-old Lawson Site, an indigenous ancestral site that was occupied by an estimated 2000 people. At present, there is a reconstructed longhouse and the site is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places

Responsibilities

Covid-19 made internships fairly difficult in 2020. Rather than attempt to find a local site in the US that would host someone in person, I opted to complete my internship virtually.

Despite virtual limitations, I was able to assist the Learning Coordinator with a variety of tasks, one of which were resource videos on YouTube. These videos were child friendly talks on natural resources of the area and included a simple craft that could be completed during quarantine.

The largest project completed with the Learning Coordinator was the creation of Summer camp kits. These kits could be purchased from the museum, which would then ship them out to those who ordered them.

The kits included a variety of activities that matched a theme that changed with each weeks kit. Activities included crafts, learning activities, and games.

Canva was used to create instructions and a variety of other materials. In order to create patterns, the museum made use of a Cricut machine. Fortunately, I was able to create a majority of these patterns remotely by using the Cricut app. Once patterns were completed, the Learning Coordinator was able to print them in Canada.
